In one of our latest trips we found a true, diamond in the rough. Our original destination was the Prime Outlets in Grove City, but we noticed several billboards for Joden Jewelers. Two of the billboards had what appeared to be exceptional pieces of antique jewelry, so we took the four-minute drive just to see if they really had anything worthwhile.

Downtown Grove City is an ordinary, small, quaint, college town. Believe me when I tell you, Joden is no ordinary small town jeweler. It took us a few minutes to look around the store. A young woman greeted us pleasantly. She asked if she could tell us a little about the store. The story was so intriguing I thought I would share it with you.

Joe Murawski ski of New Castle founded Joden Jewelers in 1970; his father, Adam, was a renowned bench jeweler. The store itself was clean, newly remodeled, and pleasant, with fresh flowers and a surprising amount of traffic on the day we were there. There were many interesting things about Joden Jewelers, but without a doubt, the most interesting was the inventory. This is an inventory that would fit into Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, or Bond Street, London. The most intriguing part of the store includes a show case, they call their "Museum Case." It holds a world-renowned collection of some of the finest antique, estate, and modern jewelry you will see anywhere in the nation. Some include pieces actually made for King Edward, 1901-1910, and an extensive collection of Art Deco jewelry. There were also things from Cartier, Tiffany, and a museum quality guilloche enameled powder blue box from the workshop of the legendary Carl Faberge.

Joden also boasts the largest collection of Carlo Giuliano's works in the United States. Giuliano was the favored jeweler to Queen Victoria. There are two on premises master jewelers, both of whom have had their designs accepted by the Platinum Guild International Awards. A part of their craft includes manufacturing modern hand made, one-of-a-kind pieces. An example that we saw was a 4.21 carat fancy intense yellow diamond in a hand made setting with a color so vibrant that its impossible to explain with words. Joden holds a United States Patent for a piece of jewelry called The Lure of Diamonds. It is a diamond trimmed fishing fly used as a collar pin. They are the exclusive manufacturers.

Joden is a full member of the Jewelers Board of Trade, and have been asked repeatedly by several national publications, like Professional Jeweler Magazine, to use their pieces for articles. Joden also has a motto that as a writer realty caught my eye. It is, "You can go to a museum and look, or you can come to us and touch: ownership possibilities available." It is hard to imagine that would be true in small town Pennsylvania, but in this particular case, it really is true.
